Japanese Oyster Culture Tube
Japanese Oyster Culture Tube
Take a good look! Even though it looks very much like a straw, it is actually a oyster culture tube used at oyster farms in Hiroshima and Kagoshima, Japan. Oyster farmers will thread nylon threads through these 10 to 20 cm long culture tubes, to separate the oyster growths. Next time you find one at our beach clean up, don't be too puzzled!
