While its appearance may resemble a cheerleader’s pom-pom, its function is more akin to an ‘umbilical cord,’ connecting bundles of plastic bags together. It is only when a plastic bag is pulled away from its umbilical cord, that its journey officially begins. Occupying various markets, shops, and restaurants, the plastic bag may haphazardly leave its footprints all over the world. Consequently, the “homeless” umbilical cords are soon lost and eventually forgotten. They are often carried away by the flow of our world, buried beneath the earth or swallowed up by the sea. As weathering effects slowly break the plastic apart, particles spread indefinitely and become a potential danger to marine life.
